This is specifically for guest checkin segments that have not configured any attributes except for the Effective Location.
The expectation of the above segment is that it will capture guests who have checked in at the Effective Locations set.
However, this segment will pull in any guests who have had a "checkin" which includes not just loyalty checkins, but manual gifts and migration points as well.
Why is a random location displayed on a Timeline when gifting a Guest? This article details how if an HQ location is configured, then manual gifts to a guest will default to that HQ location or a random location if the HQ setting is not configured.
If a live location is used in this HQ setting, then all manual gifts will be gifted as the live location which will count as a "checkin" and the guest will be pulled into the segment even if they have never physically visited that location.
This is the expected behavior as well with guests who have had points migrated from a previous loyalty program.
There are two methods that can be used to resolve this:
- Add the Total Loyalty Visits attribute with a More Than Equal To operator and set the value to 1. This should result in only guests loyalty checkins, not gifts or migrations, at the specified location to fall within the segment.
- The other method is to set up a location that can be used as the HQ location setting that will not be mistaken as a live location checkin.
