The Sum of Amounts processing function looks at the individual line items on a receipt and "sums" them rather than using the total, subtotal,or any other monetary value.
It is important to note that only applicable items will be summed. These items are defined by the line item selector and represent the items that will be discounted according to the applicable configuration of the line item filters within the qualification criteria.
In the example below, let us assume that the LG Cheese and LG Chicken Pizzas belong to the same line item selector (Pizzas) and are discounted as 30% off the "Sum of Amounts" for all items belonging to that group.
The applicable amount to be discounted would be the sum of the amounts of these two pizzas, which = 30.63 (13.76+16.87).
The total discount on this receipt would be 9.19 , as this is 30% of 30.63.
The Two Stix Items would not be summed as they don't belong to the applicable line item selector and would not factor into the amount available to be discounted.
