What is the Toast Loyalty API?
Toast is replacing custom integrations for each Loyalty partner today with a standardized loyalty integration approach, also known as the Toast Loyalty API. Toasts primary goal of the API is to put as much in control of the partner such as Punchh as possible. This will allow a Punchh to enable more features within the bounds of the API without the need for custom work. For example, the new API provides more check details than in the current Toast integration. All Loyalty providers are required to use this new integration method.
How does it impact current Punchh integration?
Transitioning from the custom integration to the new Toast API integration should be seamless. Toast is replacing how Punchh integrates with Toast, the functionality of the current integration remains the same. No customers will experience a loss of functionality due to as a result of this transition; in fact, customers will now have access to additional features as listed in the Feature Matrix.
What new functionality is available in the API?
The API was designed to ensure the current Punchh integration maintained all functionality. In the first release Toast has fixed outstanding bugs and have selectively added new features which are given in the feature matrix. While the new APIs themselves do not have new capabilities, Punchh has been able to leverage these new APIs to provide additional features that were not available with the older integration methods.
Does my restaurant need to do anything at the POS to prepare for the change in how Punchh is integrated?
No. The switch is a backend change that will not require your team to make any changes. At your request, Toast will be happy to enable the integration in your lab, like they would for any change to Toast.
Will there be any changes to my restaurant’s app?
Yes. Your app will need to be updated to read a new QR code on the receipt for accruals without check-in at the POS.
Will Punchh’s transition to the new integration impact my other Toast integration partners, such as Online Ordering or Gift Cards?
No work is needed by your other vendors (e.g. Gift Cards) to accommodate the switch.
What happens to accruals and redemptions on a check that was closed using Punchh v2 and then is re-opened and modified using the new integration?
All accruals and redemptions reopened and modified can only be updated using Punchh V2 (if pending point is enabled for the business) since the unique identifiers have been changed for a check in V3, Hence, we recommend to switch on the new V3 migration at EOD and close all adjustments before migrating to V3 across stores.
Will Punchh be supporting Promotion Functionality?
Punchh and Toast have completed an integration via Toast’s Promo API which will enable the use of single-use promo codes through Partners. This functionality is completely independent of the Loyalty API. You can choose to have a Loyalty integration, a Promotion integration or both.
Punchh offers both of these features, but you are not required to use a single partner for both Loyalty and Promotion functionality.
