If an admin who wish to setup MFA for their account but don't have the mobile device can use there browser where they can install the Authenticator tool as there extension for browser:
I have attached direct link for different different browsers from where Authenticator extension can be added to the browser:
Below is an example from Google Chrome how this extension can be added to the for a google chrome browser users:
By doing a click on the link "https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/authenticator/bhghoamapcdpbohphigoooaddinpkbai/related?hl=en" admin only have to click on "Add to Chrome" which will add the extension to the browser and if manual steps please scroll to the below option as shown in the screenshot attached below to get the authenticator on web store:
Click on Extensions on the left top side and click on "Open Chrome web store" which will open "https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=en-US" link where search for the Authenticator and from there also the extension can be added.
Below are the steps to enable the MFA for the account using this MFA authenticator tool extension which we have installed on the browser:
- Try logging to the account where the MFA scan page will appear as attached below as an example:
- Now click on the authenticator extension available on the browser to scan the code:
Please click on Scan QR code where the hand pointer is pointing and if you wish to setup this manually the icon with Pencil option can be used. Please note if the extension is not displaying on the browser then it can be pinned using the extension option displayed below:
When Scan QR code option is click on the extension it will show intimate you to grab the QR code using the mouse to select the area of the QR code which is the scanning method for browser based extensions:
Please note when the highlighted red area is selected it will gives you the message that the the requested MFA has been added then click on ok.
- Now to get the code you are requested to click on the Authenticator extension again where the code will be displayed which is randomly changing in few seconds. Please enter this code in the below field to enable the MFA and click on the Dashboard and you are logged into the account:
Please note that whenever you will logging into the account and it will ask for the new code please go to the authenticator extension and enter a new code to login.
Please note this is how it can be done for rest of the browsers as well depending upon the admin which browser he/she is using.
